இந்நிலையில் முன்னணி ஆன்லைன் வர்த்தக நிறுவனமான அமேசானில் விற்கப்படும் பொருட்களுக்கு வழங்கப்படும் ஸ்டார் ரேட்டிங், காசு கொடுத்து போலியாக பதிவிடப்படுவதாக வெளியாகியுள்ள தகவல் அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. அமேசானில் விற்கப்படும் பொருட்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்படும் போலி மதிப்பீடுகளால் பயனர்கள் மோசமான பொருட்களை வாங்கி ஏமாற்றப்படுவதாக கூறப்படுகிறது. 

டெய்லி மெயில் என்ற ஊடகம் நடத்திய புலனாய்வில் அமேசான் இணையத்தில் விற்கப்படும் பொருட்களுக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள உயர்ந்தபட்ச மதீப்பீடு ( 5 அல்லது 4 ஸ்டார் ரேட்டிங்) , சில சந்தைப்படுத்தல் நிறுவனங்களால் வெறும் ரூ.1,200 க்கு விற்கப்படுவது வெளிச்சத்திற்கு வந்துள்ளது. சில சந்தைப்படுத்தல் நிறுவனங்கள் இதற்காக தங்களிடம் உள்ள testers-ஐ பயன்படுத்துவதும், இதற்காக அவர்களுக்கு ஒரு சிறிய கட்டணம் வழங்குவதும் தெரிய வந்துள்ளது.
