Reduction of future deposit interest

Interest on Employee Provident Fund (EPF ) for the current fiscal year has been reduced to 8.5%. Interest for the financial year 2018-19 was 8.65 per cent, while interest for the 2019-20 financial year has now been reduced to 8.5 per cent. This is the lowest interest rate in the last 7 years.

The Central Board of Trustees met yesterday. It was decided to reduce the interest on EPF. According to Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar, the deposit will be over Rs 700 crore in the current financial year. Interest on Employees Provident Fund was 8.5% in FY 2012-13. The maximum volume was 8.8 per cent in fiscal 2015-16. Interestingly,

the EPF rate was 8.65% in 2016-17 and 8.55% in 2017-18. The Labor Ministry is awaiting the approval of the Federal Ministry of Finance regarding the decision. It is worth noting that the Federal Government has consistently insisted on setting the interest rate for the Employees Provident Fund, similar to the amount set by the General Provident Fund and the Post Office Savings Scheme.
