Small-Scale Classrooms Affect Students' Performance: Information in the Study

Researchers have found that small-scale classrooms do not lead to better performance and achievement of students. Researchers from Michigan State University in the United States recently conducted a survey of students. Typically, the sizes of classrooms vary in each country, depending on the subjects and classes. Also, teachers can easily handle students if there are smaller classrooms. In most schools, classrooms are chosen according to the number of students. But the study found that students do not like the small size of classrooms in schools. 

For every four years since 1995, the performance and achievement of fourth grade (age 9-10) and eighth grade (age 13-14) students from around 50 countries in mathematics and science were monitored. It used data from eighth grade students from four European countries - Hungary, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia - collected in 2003, 2007 and 2011. These four countries had the largest number of classes. 

A total of 4,277 students from 231 classes in 151 schools were examined. Studies in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Earth Sciences. Ultimately, smaller classrooms have been found to make the biggest difference among students. Small-scale classrooms affect student performance. At the same time, the study reports that students who learn in large, large classrooms can easily learn.
