ஆறு கோடி ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு வாழ்ந்த ராட்சத உயிரினம் டைனோசர். 'ஜுராசிக் பார்க்' படம் வெளிவந்த பிறகு உலகமெங்கும் பரவலாக டைனோசர் அறிமுகமானது. பூமியில் இருந்த எரிமலைகள் வெடித்ததால் டைனோசர் உட்பட பலவகையான உயிரினங் கள் அழிந்திருக்கலாம் என்றுதான் 

இதுவரை கருதிவந்தனர். சமீபத்தில் யுனிவர்சிட்டி காலேஜ் லண்டன் என்ற கல்வி நிறுவனத்திலுள்ள விஞ்ஞானிகள் டைனோசர்களைப் பற்றி ஆய்வு செய்தனர். 

சூரியனைச் சுற்றி வரும் குறுங்கோள்கள் பூமியைத் தாக்கியதில் டைனோசர்கள் அழிந்திருக்கின்றன என்று கண்டுபிடித்துள்ளனர். இது உயிரியல் விஞ்ஞானிகள் மத்தியில் பரபரப்பைக் கிளப்பியுள்ளது. 

இருந்தாலும் எரிமலை வெடிப்பால்தான் டைனோசர்கள் அழிந்தன என்று பலர் இன்னமும் உறுதியாக இருக்கின்றனர். ''எரிமலை வெடித்ததும் பல உயிரினங்கள் இறந்ததும் உண்மை. எரிமலை வெடிப்பு பூமிக்கு ஒரு வடிவத்தைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது. அது டைனோசர்களை அழிக்கவில்லை...'' என்கின்றனர்.
